Senior Superintendent of Posts, sentenced in a bribery case for three & half years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000/-

The Speical Judge, CBI, Ambala has convicted Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa Senior Superintendent of Posts, Post office, Karnal for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant. He was sentenced to undergo three & half years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 10,000/-

A case was registered on the basis of a complaint against Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa, Senior Superintendent of Posts and Ramesh Kumar, Office Supervisor of Post Office, Karnal under section 120-B IPC and section 7 of PC Act, 1988. The complainant was working as Postal Assistant at Post Office Patti Kalyana Distt. Panipat. It was alleged that they had demanded a bribe of Rs.10,000/- and a blanket from the complainant for his transfer from Patti Kalyana Distt. Panipat to Nilokheri, Distt. Karnal and also to cancel his dies-non period. On the Basis of the complaint, a trap was laid on 01.12.2006 by CBI and the accused were caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs. 10,000/- and a blanket.

After investigation, charge sheet U/s 120-B IPC r/w 7, 13(2)r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act-1988 against both the accused persons was filed on 30.06.2007 in the court of Special Judge, Haryana, Ambala. Prosecution had cited 16 witnesses out of which 10 were examined after framing of charges. The Special Judge, CBI, Ambala (Haryana) convicted Sh. Dharam Pal Kherwa, Senior Superintendent of Posts, Post Office, Karnal and acquitted Sh. Ramesh Kumar office supervisor of Post Office, Karnal.
